Bride Groom Rice, also known as Mapillai Samba Rice, is a native variety of red rice grown predominantly in Tamil Nadu. It is well suited to organic farming because it is hardy and requires little or no fertilisers or pesticides. It is a 160-day crop. This rice is high in nutritional value and was traditionally cooked and served to newlywed bridegrooms to boost their energy and power. It can be cooked as rice or used to make dishes such as Idli, Dosa, Upma, and Pongal.
